This is an artistic VR experiment project about personal understanding and expression of a love relationship, focusing on creating meaning through game mechanics and interactions. I want to use game mechanics in VR space to explain something invisible but real.

StoryTelling In VR

This abstract VR world can be seen as a spirit world of someone who is experiencing a love relationship. I explored to create simulation and metaphor of life through experience in VR.

Moving through four different scenes, the user experiences four stages of a love relationship through visuals and interactions. Combined with the feature of puzzle game, narrative text is used as poetic hints to describe the character’s feeling and the story, guiding users through the gameplay.

Scene 1: Falling in love

This is the initial stage of being intrigued about someone. The one you love is always unique in the crowd, just like the shining diamond. In this stage, you are attracted to each other.

Rules and Meanings

Text Hint: You are alway unique in the crowd. If I let you see my heart, will you come to me?

Touch the balls to come into contact with other people.

With the trigger down, do the movement like open your heart to attract the one you fall in love with.

Merge your heart and the one together to enter the next scene.

Scene 2: Obsessed till passion fade

You get obsessed with him/her and start to idealize your romantic interest. But only when the passion fades, can we see each other for what they really are. At this time, there will alway be problems in the relationship, but true love is accepting and loving someone for who they really are.

Rules and Meanings

Text Hint: My world is lighted up when we’re together. But I know one day the passion will fade.

The bright color and shining particles fade through time, which represent the process of passion fading in a romantic relationship.

When do the movements of hugging, the pink ball and the blue diamond merge together, and the scene is lighted up.

Scene 3: Disconnecting and protecting

In this stage, passion fade away as couples settle into the relationship. You and your loved one become emotional distant, and less engaged in the relationship. But you are trying to save your relationship, trying to reconnect with each other.

Rules and Meanings

Text Hint: Don‘t turn away from me. I'm willing to offer my everything

The diamond become far away from the pink ball, which represent the situation of the relationship. The relationship is drifting apart.

With the trigger down, when use the controllers to do the movement of “giving” , little pink balls are triggered out from the pink ball, moving towards the diamond. This mechanic represent that only mutual pay can sustain a love relationship.
